The Exponential Changemakers 2023 program focused on tackling Guatemala’s housing deficit through more efficient, accessible, and sustainable construction solutions powered by technology. With an estimated 1.6 million families lacking access to housing, the challenge goes beyond quantity. A large portion of households also face limited access to basic services—especially water—making the deficit both quantitative and qualitative. In addition, nearly 20% of the population still lacks access to drinking water, highlighting the urgency of addressing resource management and sustainability. Despite efforts from public and private sectors to accelerate urban development, traditional financing models and resource limitations continue to restrict access to housing. Through this edition, Progreso X collaborated with startups to identify innovative, technology-driven solutions that improve construction efficiency, enable alternative financing models, and promote responsible water management. The goal: accelerate development while creating safer, more sustainable living conditions for the region.
